During 3 – 4 November 2022, the Royal Thai Consulate-General, in collaboration with the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) 康文+++ and the Hong Kong Film Archive (HKFA) successfully held the first Thailand – Hong Kong movie pairing event, Sawasdee Cinema 2022 Presents 呈獻 : Border Crossings in Thai Cinema 跨界的泰國電影 at the HKFA Cinema, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong SAR.
The first theme of the movie pairing reflects the close ties between Thailand and Hong Kong, particularly in the area of movie production collaboration. The Thai side has chosen “Friend Zone,” a 2019 romantic comedy that was filmed in the neon-lit streets of Hong Kong as well as in several countries in Southeast Asia. While the Hong Kong side presented, “Flame in Ashes,” a 1958 classic Hong Kong – Thailand co-produced film.
Sawasdee Cinema 2022 Presents 呈獻 : Border Crossings in Thai Cinema 跨界的泰國電影 is the second edition of the Thai movie promotion event, “Sawasdee Cinema,” which its inaugural event was held at City Hall Theatre in November 2021. The event was aimed at promoting the Thai film industry, which is one of the five prominent cultural elements of Thailand, or “5F”, which include food, film, fashion, festival, and the fighting art of “Muay Thai,” as well as cultural exchange and cooperation in the area of creative industry between Thailand and Hong Kong.
