Required Supporting Documents 

  1. Application for Birth Registration Form (Click Here)
  2. In the case that the child is born in Hong Kong - Hong Kong birth certificate with a Notary Public certified copy
    ; or
    In the case that the child is born in Macao- Macao birth certificate in Portuguese with a Notary Public certified English translation copy
  1. Thai passport of the Thai national father and/ or Thai national mother
  2. Thai National Identity Card of the Thai national father and/ or Thai national mother
  3. Thai, Hong Kong, Macao, or other Identity Card of the non-Thai national father or non-Thai national mother
  4. The child’s Thai House Registration
  5. The parents’ Thai, Hong Kong, Macao, or other Marriage Certificate
  6. The parents’ Thai, Hong Kong, Macao, or other Divorce Certificate
  7. The parents’ Thai, Hong Kong, Macao, or other Death Certificate
  8. The child’s Certificate of First Name/Surname Change
  9. In the case that the child is born before 1992 (B.E. 2535): Interrogation record
  10. In the case that the applicant is over 30 years of age: a DNA test result from an institution accredited by the Hong Kong/Macau authorities is required (details can be consulted at the Consulate General)

For items 3-10, the applicants is required to present the original document or a clear, verifiable photograph/digital copies upon submission.  Please note that the Royal Thai Consulate-General does not require and will not retain physical photocopies of the aforementioned documents.

 

Remarks

  • The child must be born within Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) or Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR), to either a Thai mother and/or a Thai father. In case the child’s mother is not Thai, a marriage certificate of the parents is required.
  • The Thai national father or the Thai national mother must submit the application in person at the consulate.
  • In the case that the father / mother is under legal age (under 20 years of age), the under legal age parent(s) or their legal guardian must accompany the child to report the birth in person and sign relevant official consent forms.
  • Photocopies of Thai, Hong Kong, Macao, or other passports must include the biodata page (showing photograph and personal details) as well as any pages indicating official name or surname amendments.
  • Photocopies of Thai, Hong Kong, Macao, or other National Identity Cards must include both the front and back of the card.
  • House Registration must be the current booklet format, and the photocopy must include every page containing recorded entries.
  • Consular staffs reserve the right to request additional supporting documents or evidence as deemed necessary.

 

Recommendation upon Receiving the Original Birth Certificate

 

  1. Please verify that all details are accurate and complete in both Thai and English from items 1.1 to 4.8. Should you find any discrepancies, please notify the staffs before signing on the birth certificate.

 

  1. The mother or father must sign as the Birth Notifying Person in item 4.8 using either a blue or black ink pen.

 

  1. Please safely keep the original birth certificate because it can be issued only once. In the event of loss or damage, please contact the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Hong Kong to request for a certified true copy.

 

  1. The original birth certificate is an essential document used for verification, proof, and confirmation of identity. It serves as primary evidence for registering the child’s name to the house registration in Thailand and directly concerns the individual's civil rights and duties as a Thai citizen such as school enrollment, employment applications, and elections.

 

  1. Registration of a Newborn in the Thai House Registration

            5.1 The child’s father and mother must process the child's name registeration into the house registration in person in Thailand, or execute a power of attorney to authorize a representative (where permissible).

            5.2 For Thai nationals or newborns born abroad (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Macao Special Administrative Region), applicants must submit the required evidence alongside the registration request to the district registrar of the applicant or the parents’ Thai permanent residence. The required documents include the original birth certificate, the child's Thai passport (if applicable), and the identification documents of the parents. Please contact the district office where you intend to register the child prior to you trip to Thailand to confirm about the exact documentation required and to schedule an appointment.

  1. The original birth certificate should not be laminated, unless the child’s name registration process is completed.
