Visa Information and Requirements

General Information

The Royal Thai Consulate-General now employs the electronic visa (e-Visa) system to receive and process all applications for a visa to enter the Kingdom of Thailand, except for Elite Visa and ACMECS Single Visa.

A non-Thai national whose current legal residence is in the Hong Kong SAR or the Macao SAR with valid permission of stay (e.g. Hong Kong Identity Card) who wishes to obtain a visa to enter the Kingdom of Thailand must apply and settle application fees through the platform on the Thai E-Visa Official Website (https://www.thaievisa.go.th), where English, Chinese, and Video User Manuals are available. Applicants whose current legal residence is not in the Hong Kong SAR or the Macao SAR, i.e. who are visitors in the Hong Kong SAR or the Macao SAR, cannot apply via the Royal Thai Consulate-General.

Applicants are no longer required to submit his/her passport and original supporting documents in person at the Royal Thai Consulate-General. The new process requires an applicant to create an account, fill in the requested details, upload documents, make payment through the system, and wait for the application to be processed. Applicants may be directed to take further actions as communicated by electronic mail.

Visas will be approved, rejected, or cancelled through the system, and applicants will be notified of the result by electronic mail. Applications may be cancelled/rejected due to provision of incorrect or inconsistent information — including cases where an applicant’s personal or passport information is misspelt or misstated, or where an applicant’s travel details are inconsistent with the supporting documents provided. Applicants will be notified of the reason for application rejection, but not for application cancellation. Approved visas could be downloaded and printed out from the system for presentation to airlines and the Thai immigration authorities. Application fees are non-refundable in all cases.

Please refer to the Notes on e-Visa Application below for general guidance. Enquiries may be directed to [email protected]. Applicants should study the User Manuals on the Thai E-Visa Official Website prior to making an enquiry.

Notes on e-Visa Application

(1) Please ensure that the correct biodata and passport details are entered into the system. It is not possible to revise/edit the details after an application is submitted. The Consulate will cancel/reject all applications with incorrect biodata and passport details.

(2) In uploading supporting documents, please refer to the following guidelines:

  • All supporting documents are to be submitted in English or Thai, or accompanied with English or Thai certified translation.  The applicant can translate and certify the translation of the relevant document(s) him/herself.

  • All photo/document uploads are to be submitted in straight direction, with details clearly visible. Inverted/rotated uploads may not be considered. Unclear documents/photos, irregular-sized photographs, and photographs not consistent with the traveler’s appearance may not be considered.

  • Applicants are responsible for checking and determining by themselves whether they need to submit Required Additional Documents for Selected Travel Document Nationalities (details below).

  • The e-Visa Declaration needs to be completely filled and signed. State the applicant’s name in English.  Applicants submitting applications on behalf of another (e.g. infant child) should indicate the relationship in parentheses.

  • Travel booking confirmation generally refers to flight document(s). e.g. air ticket(s)/receipt(s)/confirmation(s).  Holders of Group A/B/C Travel Document Nationalities are required to submit documents for both inbound and outbound flights.

  • Picture of applicant holding photo and information page of passport refers to applicant’s “selfie” with the biodata page of the passport.

(3) Non-submission of multiple required documents will result in the application's cancellation or rejection. Inappropriate behaviour/action towards consular staff, whether by or on behalf of the applicant, will also result in the application’s rejection.

(4) Where a request for additional document(s) is issued, the relevant applicant is required to submit such document(s) to [email protected] — stating the email subject as “Add Doc – [APPLICANT’S FULL NAME]”. The processing time for applications for which a request for additional document(s) is issued will generally be longer.
