On 12 – 13 November 2021, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Hong Kong organised “Sawasdee Cinema 2021” at Hong Kong City Hall Theatre, with an aim to promote Thai films and creative advertisements, and further enhance cooperation between the Royal Thai Government and the Government of Hong Kong SAR in the area of creative industry which is one of the six key areas under the MOU signed between the two governments during Chief Executive Carrie Lam’s visit to Thailand in November 2019. In the event, a medley of heartwarming and tear-jerking TV commercials, and two spectacular Thai films; “9 Satra: The Legend of Muay Thai” and “Pee Mak” were screened.

At the inaugural screening of “Sawasdee Cinema 2021”, Mr. Tull Traisorat, Consul-General of Thailand delivered opening remarks, highlighting that “cultural diplomacy” plays an integral part in Thailand’s foreign policy, with films, dramas, and creative advertisements, as well as sports like “Muay Thai” being effective tools for Thailand to enhance people-to-people connectivity, which is a strong basis of every cordial relation between countries and regions. Consul-General is also very pleased to learn that Thailand’s creative contents like TV dramas, films, and TV commercials are increasingly popular in Hong Kong which is known as the “Centre for International Cultural Exchange.” He also hopes that “Sawasdee Cinema 2021” help audience reminisce their memories in Thailand and their experience on Thai cultures and stressed that Thailand is now ready to welcome all visitors once again.
